Green Week's bike events at UWE Bristol

As part of Green Week 2025 (3–9 November), UWE Bristol is hosting a series of cycling-themed events designed to help you keep your bike in good condition, stay safe on the roads, and embrace pedal power as a sustainable way to get around.

Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or just thinking about starting, these events are a great way to learn new skills, meet other riders, and feel more confident on two wheels.

Free Bike Maintenance Workshops

If you’ve ever found yourself stranded with a flat tyre or squeaky brakes, this is the event for you. The Free Bike Maintenance Workshops offer hands-on training from the experts at Bike Bristol. You’ll learn how to make simple adjustments, repair punctures, and carry out essential safety checks.

It’s a relaxed, practical session that gives you the skills to look after your bike yourself - saving you both money and hassle later on. Sessions are free, but places are limited, so booking is essential.

· Frenchay Campus: Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 November 2025, Z Block Atrium

Dr Bike Sessions

UWE’s popular Dr Bike sessions are back for Green Week, offering free professional bike check-ups on both Frenchay and City campuses. Friendly mechanics will be on hand to give your bike a health check, tweak brakes and gears, inflate tyres, and ensure everything’s safe for your next ride.

You don’t need to book - just turn up with your bike and they’ll do what they can during your slot. They’ll even replace minor parts like brake pads or inner tubes if needed.

· Frenchay Campus: Tuesday 4 November 2025, P Block Cycle Hub

· Bower Ashton Campus: Thursday 6 November 2025, Secure Bike Store

Free Bicycle Security Marking

Bike theft can happen anywhere, but UWE’s Free Bicycle Security Marking event helps reduce the risk. Run by the UWE Bristol Police team, the session allows you to get your

bike marked and registered on the national bike database - a simple but effective way to deter theft and make recovery easier if your bike ever goes missing.

There’s no need to book; just bring your bike along to the Bower Ashton Campus on Friday 7 November, between 10:00 and 14:00.

By keeping your bike in good condition, ensuring it’s secure, and learning a few key maintenance skills, you’re not just saving money - you’re contributing to a greener, more active campus.
