We spoke with Mohammed, a third-year law student, to understand how he manages the demands of his rigorous academic studies alongside his responsibilities as a student life assistant.
Join us as we take a glimpse into his daily schedule and delve into his reflections on the significance of student life and its role in fostering community at UWE.

I am a Law student in my third year. Despite studying an academically challenging course, I strongly believe that University is not just about getting a degree and finding a job; it is about creating meaningful experiences and lasting memories that you will cherish for the rest of your life.
Picture this: meeting likeminded individuals, stepping out of your comfort zone, going on trips with students that you have just met, getting that exciting adrenaline rush when going go-karting and visiting Bristol's most haunted places with your mates on Halloween, engaging in activities that are fun and cheesy like learning Salsa and singing your heart out in karaoke nights with fellow students who have no clue about the song's lyrics!
Everything I mentioned above is about some of the exciting Student Life events we planned this year. These events have created a strong sense of community, belonging, and harmony among students, enabling them to break social barriers and navigate the University in an environment that continually strives to improve the student experience and champions its well-being.
I have recently uploaded a video of a day in the life of a Student Life Assistant on our Instagram page! The short real demonstrates how I juggle being both a student and a staff member, committed to fostering a lively and interactive environment in all the events we create, such as playing table tennis, judging chess tournaments, playing Monopoly, watching movies, crocket and knitting and striking conversations with students who come to our event to get unwind after long academic day.
As a student life assistant, I take pride in being a part of a team that is dedicated to continuously enhancing the students' experience and making sure that student's needs are met. Many students ask me what I like about my job, and my response is seeing how students' eyes light up with genuine happiness and joy after an event has finished and asking me my favourite question, "When is our next event? Because we really enjoyed this one!"
See you at our next event!
