A lot of people struggle during the darker months so we’ve put together a helpful guide to get you through to spring. We’re not going to say “new year, new me” but it might be a good time to get into some new habits.
Eat well:
It’s tempting to keep reaching for the treats to give yourself a serotonin hit, but eating a well-balanced diet is key to long term health. Make sure your food is vitamin packed and you’ll feel the benefits in no time. Why not chose a recipe from Student’s Life catalogue and make it with some friends?
Get active:
Exercising literally gets the blood flowing but it’s also great for your mind. The endorphins released are a natural mood booster which helps reduce stress and anxiety, as well as improve your sleep.
If you haven’t taken advantage of a gym membership, this is your chance. The Centre for Sport on Frenchay Campus is offering a 6 month contract for £89 or upgrade to include the Active Card for £99. This offer is valid from January 1st until 9 February 2025!
Mind over matter:
Practicing a form of mindfulness can do wonders for your health. It could be taking a few moments to stretch every morning, counting five things of five different colours on your daily walk or writing down your thoughts before bed. It all helps to clear the mind and improve your wellbeing. We have some tips from previous students on what they find helps.
Have a break, have a…
Snack of your choice. Or a walk, a little dance in the kitchen, or anything that gives you a rest. With exams around the corner for a lot of you, it’s important to remember to take a break. Make sure you’re eating well, sleeping well, and keeping your mind well. Our Wellbeing Service is on hand with some help if you need it and their website has lots of resources to get you through stressful times.
