When you move out of accommodation, you must leave it in a clear, clean condition. That includes your bedroom, bathroom and any communal spaces.
You must take all your belongings with you. If you don't want to keep it anymore, donate it to the Sustainability Hub on Frenchay campus or drop it into one of the donation bins near accommodation.
Cleaning the communal areas should be split by all flatmates. Don't be unfair and leave it all to one person to do. If there are damage/cleaning charges in these areas, they will be split between all flatmates.
Bedroom:
Cleaning your bedroom is your responsibility. Before you hand your keys back, you should:
- Throw away all rubbish in the relevant bins. (Don't forget to recycle what you can!)
- Wipe down all surfaces (desk, shelves, and drawers).
- Vacuum carpets.
Bathroom:
If you have an ensuite, cleaning it is your responsibility. If you share a bathroom, split the cleaning between those who use it.
- Clean shower/bath, sink and toilet. Remove as much limescale as possible.
- Scrub tiles (floor and wall).
- Wipe clean all surfaces and mirrors.
Kitchen:
Split these roles equally between flatmates so everyone does their fair share.
- Make sure everything is cleared out of your cupboards, fridge and freezer. Leftover food can lead to pests that need to be exterminated.
- Wipe clean cupboards, inside and out.
- Clean cookers and hobs, including grill pans, wire wracks and extractors.
- Clean microwave inside and out.
- Wipe clean all surfaces, including tiles.
- Sweep and mop the floor.
Living room and hallways:
Like the kitchen, split these between all flatmates.
- Return all furniture to its original position.
- Wipe clean skirting boards and window sills.
- Vacuum carpets.
