A Day in the Life of a Student Life Assistant: Balancing Studies, Passions, and Community
Hi, I’m Amy Maung, a 22-year-old Digital Marketing master’s student with a passion for marketing, creativity, and making an impact. Alongside my studies, I’m proud to be part of UWE Bristol’s Student Life Team, where I help enhance the campus experience for my peers. Here’s a glimpse into how I manage my day!
Morning: Starting with Purpose
My mornings kick off around 7:45 AM, and to jumpstart my day, I wake up with a refreshing ice-cold shower. As someone who’s not naturally a morning person, I tend to skip a heavy breakfast, instead grabbing a chocolate drink from Atrium or a pain au chocolate from the Student Union as a light start to the day.
By 9 AM, I’m in my first lecture of the day—Tuesdays begin with Data Analytics and Statistics, followed by an 11 AM class on Marketing Communication. Luckily, most of my classes take place in the X Block (Business and Law Building), which makes navigating campus easy.
Afternoon: Refueling and Reconnecting
By noon, hunger hits, and I make my way to OneZone for a hearty meal. It’s always a treat and the perfect opportunity to connect with friends. Lunchtime often doubles as a casual brainstorming session, where we chat about upcoming assignments while taking a much-needed break.
Mid-Afternoon: Staying Productive
Afternoons are when I focus on academic tasks. Whether it’s tackling digital marketing assessments, completing pre-workshop activities, or catching up on reading materials, I use this time to stay on top of coursework. Prepping ahead helps me feel confident and engaged during class discussions.
Evening: Working and Networking
Evenings are all about balancing work and fun. My shift as a Student Life Assistant starts at 5 PM, and once I put on my signature yellow top, I step into a role that’s both rewarding and exciting. I get to connect with fellow students, embody UWE’s core values, and contribute to creating a vibrant campus atmosphere.
This job is more than just work; it’s about building relationships, creating memories, and learning new skills. It’s an experience that continuously expands my network and strengthens my sense of community.
Dinner and Downtime
After my shift, I unwind with a comforting dinner. I enjoy experimenting with recipes, often inspired by my roots in Myanmar. The evenings also include some late-night study sessions to stay on top of deadlines and a little time scrolling through TikTok—my go-to platform as a proud Gen Z social media enthusiast.
Night: Relaxation and Reflection
My day winds down with K-dramas or short movies, often shared with my boyfriend. These quiet moments help me recharge and reflect on everything I accomplished during the day. Balancing my studies, my role in the Student Life Team, and my personal passions keeps me motivated and reminds me of my purpose: to connect, inspire, and make a difference.
