Ice Skating Adventure at Planet Ice

A Chilly but Thrilling Experience

As if the UK isn’t cold enough, we decided to embrace the chill and head out for an ice skating session on Saturday, 1st February, at Planet Ice. The evening was filled with excitement, falls, laughter, and the refreshing cold air—all part of the student life experience at UWE.

A Chilly but Thrilling Experience

We arrived at the rink just as the Zamboni machine was gliding across the ice, smoothing it into a perfect glass-like surface. The moment we could go in, the rink quickly bustled with activity—kids shouting, pros effortlessly gliding, and, of course, our Student Life team making a memorable impression by falling spectacularly!

Skating in circles, feeling the crisp air against our faces, we got tired, thirsty, and hungry—but the cold was refreshing and made for an unforgettable experience. It was great to share this event with so many of you, bringing students together for a fun and active afternoon. Even though it was the first time ice-skating for majority of us, we still learnt and improved in the four hours we were there.

Why Ice Skating is Great for You

Ice skating isn’t just about fun—it comes with plenty of physical and mental benefits:

🧊 Great Exercise – Skating works your legs, core, and balance while keeping things fun and dynamic.

❄️ Improves Coordination & Strength – The unstable surface forces your muscles to work harder, improving your stability and endurance.

⛸ Stress Relief – Gliding on ice can be therapeutic, helping to release stress while enjoying the cool atmosphere.

💙 Social & Fun – Whether you're a pro skater or a first-timer, ice skating is best enjoyed with friends, making it a great way to connect with other students.

How to Make the Most of a Ice Skating

  • Dress Warm – The rink may be indoors, but layers, gloves, and warm socks will keep you comfortable.
  • Stay Hydrated & Snack Up – Skating is a workout, so bring water and refuel with snacks afterward.
  • Go with Friends – It's always better (and funnier) when you’re not the only one falling!
  • Keep an Eye on UWE Events – More fun events are happening throughout the term, so stay updated!

Final Thoughts

This event was one for the books, filled with fun, cold air, and some sore muscles the next day! We hope to see more of you at future Student Life events—whether on the ice, at socials, or exploring Bristol together. Until then, keep gliding forward! ⛸✨ Don't forget to leave us your feedback on our events.
